President Trump has ordered a 100% tariff on foreign films to save the “dying” Hollywood industry.
But is this really a good thing?
Modern film production often involves multinational collaborations, with elements like production, financing, post-production, and visual effects spread across multiple countries.
If Trump insists on imposing 100% tariffs on imported films, it would spell disaster for Hollywood’s film and television industry.
Moreover, implementation carries too many uncertainties—this latest move raises more questions than it answers. For now, costs are likely to rise, ultimately passed on to consumers.
Many upcoming films stand little chance of turning a profit. This could well lead to higher movie ticket prices, copyright fees, and home entertainment product costs.
If we can no longer afford to go to the movies, we’ll just have to stay home and watch Trump perform on television.
Please award the Oscar for Best Actor to our esteemed President.
