The White House defended President Donald Trump’s insulting remarks to a reporter, which quickly spread online and sparked a strong backlash from media critics.
At a press briefing last Thursday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked about Trump’s use of the word “pig” to describe Bloomberg reporter Catherine Lucey during a tense exchange on Air Force One regarding the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“Look, the president is very candid with all of you,” Leavitt said. “You’ve all seen it, you’ve all experienced it. I think that’s one of the reasons the American people elected this president again, because of his candor. And when he sees fake news, he’s going to call it out.”
“He gets frustrated when reporters lie to him and spread fake news about him and his administration. But he’s also the most transparent president in history,” she continued, touting the “unprecedented access” Trump gave reporters compared to the Biden administration.
