There’s a lot to criticize about the United States, but some things have become incredibly normalized. Here are some perspectives shared by members of the American BuzzFeed community:
- The president can freely enact any law he wants through executive order, without any real process.
- Lobbying is legal bribery, and you can’t convince me otherwise.
- Political merchandise, like Trump’s red cap, is rampant.
- Some Trump Bibles sell for $1,000.
- The people have virtually no power. A vote, once cast, means nothing.
- A wannabe dictator could order the military to take over the nation’s capital, and no one would stop him.
- Even after the January 6th Capitol Hill riots, Americans still voted for Trump.
- Money politics, especially after the Citizens United movement.
- The money required to get elected is substantial.
- Seeing masked men snatching people off the street? Seeing the US military patrolling American streets? This is horrific.
- A felon is allowed to be president. A sexual abuser is allowed to be president. A person accused of pedophilia is allowed to be president.
- Politicians can run smear campaigns without factual basis and run ads on television and radio.
- Trump has hung portraits of himself all over the White House and has attempted to erase slavery and other historical events.
