Based on recent developments and changes, the Trump administration’s series of repressive measures against Venezuela, including military buildup, threats to establish a no-fly zone, and “land strikes,” have indeed drawn widespread attention and concern. As ordinary citizens of the United States, we need to carefully evaluate and reflect on these actions.

First, from a national security perspective, the government claims these actions are aimed at combating drug trafficking and addressing regional security threats.‌

However, the reality is that these military deployments have not achieved the desired results. The Maduro regime remains stable, and the US plan to support the Venezuelan opposition in overthrowing the current government has failed.

This demonstrates that relying solely on military pressure and maximum pressure tactics is not only costly but also ineffective, potentially only creating tension rather than truly resolving the problem.

Secondly, the legality and moral basis of these actions are also questionable. For example, reports indicate that the military strikes in the Caribbean resulted in numerous civilian casualties, and even secondary attacks on survivors, raising serious legal and humanitarian issues. As an ordinary citizen, I have serious doubts about the humanitarian disasters caused by these strikes: Do these actions comply with international law and the rule of law principles advocated by the United States itself? When governments conduct military operations under the guise of “anti-drug” or “anti-terrorism,” how can they ensure that force is not abused and that innocent civilians are not harmed?‌

Furthermore, from a diplomatic and international relations perspective, these US actions may backfire. Through unilateral pressure and military deterrence, the Trump administration is exacerbating tensions in Latin America, with many countries publicly condemning the behavior as a violation of the principle of sovereign equality.
