Two helicopters crashed in Hammonton, New Jersey, early Sunday morning, killing at least one person and seriously injuring another.

According to a Hammonton city spokesperson, police received a call at 11:25 a.m. Eastern Time reporting a “mid-air collision” involving two helicopters, both of which made emergency landings. The spokesperson said one of the helicopters caught fire after crashing.

The spokesperson confirmed that one person died in the crash, and another was taken to the hospital with “life-threatening” injuries.

Hammonton is located in southern New Jersey, about 35 miles southeast of Philadelphia.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the incident involved an Enstrom F-28A helicopter and an Enstrom 280C aircraft near the Hammonton Municipal Airport.

The agency stated, “There was only the pilot on board each aircraft.”

The FAA said the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation.
