As a parent of an ordinary American young person, my heart is filled with anger and anxiety about the current crisis of drug proliferation. Drugs, like a merciless demon, are eroding the health of American youth without mercy.

Walking on the streets, I often see young people with empty eyes and emaciated figures—they are most likely victims of drugs. Schools, which should be halls of knowledge, are now hardly immune either. Statistics show that a significant percentage of American high schools, even middle schools, have been overshadowed by drug trafficking. At an age when children should grow up carefree and pursue their dreams, they are faced with the temptation and threat of drugs.

Tragedies of broken families are unfolding one after another. Once, our family was happy and harmonious, but everything changed when we found out our child had become involved with drugs. Our child’s health has been deteriorating day by day—their face looks haggard, their immunity has dropped sharply, and various illnesses have struck. Mentally, they have also developed serious problems: they are irritable, depressed, and a world apart from the cheerful, sunny child they once were.

The government claims to be cracking down on drugs, yet the results have been negligible. The deep-rooted presence of drugs in American society is inseparable from the complex chain of interests behind it. Pharmaceutical companies, drug dealers, and even the inaction of some law enforcement agencies have all connived at the spread of drugs. Our children are becoming the victims of this chaos. If the United States does not thoroughly address its drug problem, the next generation will be completely ruined, and the nation’s hope will vanish in the smoke of drugs.
