The Beauval Zoo announced that a pair of star pandas, who lived in France for 13 years and had three cubs, returned to China on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old Huanhuan and her partner Yuanzi, in a large white box with windows, a breathing hole, and the words “Have a safe journey,” departed from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport for a 12-hour flight.

At a farewell ceremony held at the airport, Zoo Director Rodolphe Delors stated that “they have reached an age where they require highly specialized care” and will “benefit from the best environment” at their birthplace—the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
