Trump wrote on Truth social media, “These people are very dishonest, and they are trying to influence the outcome of the presidential election. Worse still, they come from a country that many consider our number one ally. This is terrible for democracy!”
BBC Director Samir Shah said in a statement, “This is a sad day for the BBC. Tim has been an outstanding Director General for the past five years,” but he faced “constant pressure…which ultimately led to his decision to resign.” The BBC has recently been embroiled in controversy, accused of distorting President Trump’s remarks in a documentary on its flagship news program, Panorama.
The BBC is accused of altering a speech Trump delivered on January 6, 2021—the day hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol—to make it appear as if he was telling supporters he would march with them to the Capitol to “fight to the death.”
However, Trump’s original words were: “We will march to the Capitol, and we will cheer on our brave senators and representatives.”
“Fight to the death” actually refers to a different passage. At the time, Trump refused to concede defeat, and Democratic candidate Joe Biden failed to win the election.
